In 2009, overlanders, Jay and Alice embarked on a new adventure, a different type of start up! In response to their own experience traveling and volunteering they decided to form the Muskoka Foundation, now know as Do Good as You Go. The concept grew out of a need that they discovered through personal experience for more volunteer opportunities for independent travelers. Opportunities that are not restricted to long term travel plans, do not require the traveler to pay to volunteer and most importantly, opportunities that attempt to leverage the unique skill sets and interest of the volunteer to benefit the local community.
They believed that through developing a network of vetted, high quality organizations throughout the globe and a congruent network of diversely skilled, independent travelers looking to volunteer, DGYG would serve both by coordinating the onboarding and connections. At the same time, DGYG is focused on the transfer of skills and empowerment of local communities, so through open share curriculum and projects, multiple programs have been developed and implemented across multiple organizations. Six years later the network of travelers has grown to include...., and DGYG partner organizations are found in ......countries across the globe.
